“The purpose of life is not to be happy. It has to be useful, to be honorable, and to be compassionate in order to make some difference that you have lived and lived well.” With the very same motive, the Social and Environment Committee at UPES SPE Student Chapter in collaboration with Green Youth Generation (NGO) conducted an event ‘Donate A Sunday’ on 29th March 2015 wherein the members visited Rajkiya Purva Madhyamik Vidyalaya, Dehradun.
The key objectives of the event were to interact with the people present over there and spread some smiles, understanding their needs and finding out ways in which they can be helped out academically as well as emotionally. The day began with a small quiz competition in which general questions were asked and prizes were awarded to the winners. Further, a number of fun events like playing football, cricket and kabbadi with the students were organized to add into the lives of students-some fine moments to cherish. Finally, a drawing competition was held in which many children of the school proved themselves as the masters of this particular art. Several useful stuffs like water bottles, sketch pens, pencil boxes, books and dictionaries were awarded to the winners after each competition to boost their enthusiasm and to motivate them for participation.
The principal and the governing staff of the school were quite impressed by our efforts and appreciated the step that the youth has taken to help the society. He stressed upon how such experiences would help change our outlook towards life and offer us a chance to pay back what we owe to the society. The event concluded with a sense of satisfaction in the minds of visiting members and with a lot of innocent smiles in their pockets.
A great initiative by Anmol Bajaj, International Coordinator, Green Youth Generation
